Careers in media

Videography, editing, and photography. The picture is the first promise. Booking is what happens after the picture is trusted.

The business of being booked

A paid job is not a company. Pricing, a contract, and a clean delivery are how one client becomes the next.

The spine

How to get booked

Eight stages. Each one gives you a free resource, a tool, and a door into Backend Blueprint.

The bar

The reel we would book

  • Three pieces. Not a montage of everything you have ever shot.
  • Under a minute. Each piece. Short enough that a buyer will watch it.
  • A job a stranger could hire. A church, a room, a dish, a listing, or a shop.

Cut The highlight that only proves you can hold a camera. Gear shots. Your name on every frame. Music over a job that has no client.

Leave A start, a middle, and a finish. The work a buyer can compare. The Cochran Films portfolio is that kind of finished work.

Three lanes

Where the work actually lives

From yes to again

The booking pipeline

Pitch, quote, contract, deposit, shoot, deliver, review, rebook. Skip a step and the next client feels it.

A videographer hands a client a drive while she holds a laptop
  1. Pitch

One offer for one kind of room. Say what done looks like.

  2. Quote

Creator Collective writes the quote as an estimate the client can accept. Include prep, grade, revisions, and delivery.

  3. Contract

Both sides sign inside Creator Collective. A signed agreement beats a handshake you cannot explain later.

  4. Deposit

Creator Collective collects the deposit. Work starts when that money has moved. A date without a deposit is a maybe.

  5. Shoot

Show up with a plan, a backup, and the kit the room actually needs.

  6. Deliver

This is where professionals hand off footage. Name the files and give a link the client can open. Cochran Films uses Bizzi Cloud for that handoff.

  7. Review

Ask what they will use next. A review is the start of the next job, not a survey.

  8. Rebook

Put the next date on the calendar before the files are old news.

The path, as it happened

One job

Andre Dickens, then the ball

July 2021 to January 2022. Videographer for the Andre Dickens mayoral campaign in Atlanta. The delivery was promotional films and an archive of the race.

They booked the studio again for the Mayor Andre Dickens Inaugural Ball. That delivery was an instant print experience for guests, civic leaders, and community partners.

$75,000 raised toward a $100,000 goal

That number is The RICE Way Challenge for the Russell Innovation Center for Entrepreneurs. Community storytelling helped raise it for Black owned businesses. It is campaign money, not a day rate. The rate floor calculator is still the floor.

Questions

Straight answers

How do I become a videographer in Atlanta?

Learn the picture first, then show finished work a buyer in Atlanta or Douglasville can compare. Churches, venues, restaurants, real estate, nonprofits, and barbershops are the rooms that already need a videographer. This page walks that path. Backend Blueprint holds the longer scripts.

How do I get booked as a freelance videographer?

A booking is a yes that survives the quote, the contract, the deposit, the shoot, and the delivery. Skip one of those and the next client feels it. Follow the eight stages on this page, then join Creator Collective so the quote, the contract, and the deposit live in one place.

What should a freelance videographer charge?

Start with a minimum day rate, not a guess. Add monthly business expenses to the personal income you need. Divide by what remains after a tax and savings set aside. Then divide by the days you can truly bill. Use the rate floor calculator on this page. Revenue is not profit.

How do I form an LLC in Georgia?

Cochran Films LLC was formed online through the Georgia Secretary of State for $100. The filing date was December 17, 2024. The certificate was issued December 26, 2024. File on the official Georgia Secretary of State site. This is not legal advice.

How do I get an EIN?

After the state accepts the company, request an employer identification number from the IRS. Use the official IRS application. Banks and clients use that number to see the business as its own entity. This is not tax advice.

How do I set a day rate?

Add your monthly business expenses to the personal income you need. Divide by what remains after a tax and savings set aside. Then divide by the days you can truly bill. The result is a minimum day rate, not a market price. Revenue is not profit.

How do I find my first clients?

Start with rooms that already book creators: churches, venues, restaurants, real estate, nonprofits, and barbershops. One clear offer beats a general reel. The full scripts are inside Backend Blueprint.

What belongs on a videographer reel?

Three pieces. Each one under a minute. Each one a job a stranger could hire, such as a church, a room, a dish, a listing, or a shop. Cut the highlight that only proves you can hold a camera, the gear shots, your name on every frame, and music over a job that has no client. Leave a start, a middle, and a finish a buyer can compare.

How do I deliver footage professionally?

Name the files, keep the date you promised, and give the client a link they can open without texting you. Bizzi Cloud is how Cochran Films hands footage to clients.

How do I join the Cochran Films crew roster?

Join Creator Collective first. That is where every opportunity is posted, including work with Cochran Films. Then use the roster form at the top of this page with your name, email, city, role, portfolio, and availability. We read the reel. We book from this list when a job fits. Every open role still lives on Creator Collective. This page does not list studio jobs.
